A popular radio and television performer for over forty years, Dinah Shore was revered for the warmth of her personality and her sincere, unaffected stage presence. The daughter of Russian Jewish immigrants raised in a small town in Tennessee, Dinah Shore first appeared on television in 1951, but in 1956, she began her one hour program on NBC, The Dinah Shore Chevy Show.
The program was extremely popular - with two or three guests drawn from the world of music, sports, and movies. Her affable style made virtually any performer feel comfortable. Shore ended her televised programs by throwing an enthusiastic and ultimately iconic kiss directly to the cameras and viewers, exclaiming "MWAH!" to the audience.
